Swindler Walkthrough

Swindler is a puzzle game presented by Nitrome. Swindler features the trademark sprite graphics that we have come to expect from Nitrome games, twenty-five levels, and a unique control system. Swindler is also one of few Nitrome games that does not feature chiptune audio.

The goal of Swindler is to grab the loot in the treasure chest on each level, avoiding monsters and traps along the way. If you are caught, you will have to start the level from its beginning, but fortunately, you have unlimited lives in this puzzle game, so take as many tries as you need to. Your progress is saved upon the completion of each level, so you will not have to complete your heist in one session.

What makes Swindler so unique is its control system. Instead of using run-of-the-mill platform game controls, Swindler gives you control over your bandit as he climbs up and down his slimy rope. The left and right arrow keys rotate the screen, causing your character to dangle in a different direction due to gravity and allowing new ranges of movement. Aside from being somewhat reminiscent of a level of Earthworm Jim, this setup requires more thought than simply jumping from place-to-place.

At times, Swindler can be a very frustrating puzzle game. I will admit that I died seven times on the second level before finally reaching the chest. There are no special techniques or upgrades, so you will have to rely on brain power and skill. Timing is your best friend in this puzzle game. Note the timing of moving enemies, and make your moves when the way is clear. It is also a good idea to lean against walls when waiting to avoid dangling into danger (but avoid leaning against walls with yellow good on them, because these lead to death).

Swindler is a very difficult puzzle game, but don't let that scare you. Once you get the hang of it (pun intended), you will learn to love it! Casual gamers and hardcore puzzle fans alike will enjoy Swindler!
